Robert Sorby Roughing-Out Gouges
Roughing gouges are heavy duty gouges designed to quickly convert square stock into round. Roughing-Out stock is the most demanding job you can ask of a turning chisel and it is here that the Robert Sorby quality will really shine through.
All of the tools offered here are made from Robert Sorby's M2 high-speed steel. The Robert Sorby Gold Series tools have a Titanium Nitride coating that increases the edge retention by approximately three times over that of standard models.
Recommended for the initial turning of uneven or square spindle stock to round. If you are only getting one size, the 3/4" is our recommendation. Not designed for use on bowl grain projects.
