Sabatier Marking (Layout) Knives
Sabatier knives are made in the ancient city of Thiers in France. We have been selling a wide range of Sabatier kitchen knives for some time so it seemed like a natural extension to offer a marking (layout) knife for woodworkers. We already offer some very fine marking knives, but when we saw the Sabatier marking knife we immediately knew that we could make room for one more. The Sabatier marking knife looks very much like a 19th Century antique marking knife that is in our collection, which is signed by a Baltimore maker. This style of marking knife is distinctly different from the others that we offer, and I think more historically accurate, so of course we like it.
With antique marking knives of this style that we have seen, the bevel is always on one side. However, we offer this knife with a double bevel as well. Because of how comfortable this versatile knife is to hold, you may want to use it for other applications that are better suited to a double bevelled blade.
