Nicholson Saw Files
With the resurgence of traditional woodworking, many people are rediscovering hand saws. In talking with customers, we have found that most of them have not started sharpening their own saws. This is the next step. Machine sharpened saws are not the same as hand filed, and we highly recommend that you learn to sharpen your own saws for cabinetmaking. The first step is of course acquiring the right files. Saw sharpening files are not that easy to come by these days. We have chosen Nicholson saw files that should handle most saws that any cabinetmaker would be using. A simple saw vice can be fashioned by making two jaws that mount in your bench vice and hold the saw. Don't worry about setting the saw. Any saw that is properly set, can be sharpened 5 or more times at least before it needs resetting. We do sell vintage saw sets, but saw setting is trickier than filing and we recommend getting proficient with filing first.
