Woodworking Hammers & Mallets
Hammers and Mallets are one of the basic core tools of almost ever trade. Many different forms of hammers and mallets have evolved over the years for specific woodworking tasks. Traditional joiner's mallets, that is the kind of mallet that you would typically hit a morticing chisel with, are all wooden with a rectangular head. Carver's mallets traditionally have a turned (round) handle and head. Japanese craftsmen often use a brass headed mallet on their chisels. Today, there are many options available, both traditional and more contemporary. For example, the Wood is Good Urethane headed mallets have the form of carver's mallets, but they also come in sizes and weights that are ideally suited for joinery. These are our personal favorites.
