Carter Products Band Saw Accessories
It is our belief that every shop should have a band saw, even the traditional woodworker's shop. After all, not many of us have an apprentice that we can send off to do the resawing and rough out the cabriolet legs. The most successful band saw design of all time must be the 14" Delta band saw, which is what we use in our shop. While this machine is a fantasic tool, Carter Products manufactures some precision accessories that can improve on even this great design. And if you happen to own one of the Asian clones, which often are not as precisely made, the Carter band saw accessories can be even more of an improvement. Plan on about 30 to 50 minutes for installing the blade guides and a bit longer for the quick release. The narrow blade stabilizer is trivial to take on and off. The quick release requires that holes be drilled in the band saw casting and requires significant installation skills.
This is a conversion kit that replaces the lower and upper die cast zinc blade guide assemblies on the band saw with a precision machined assembly. The Carter blade guide is machined from solid high grade aluminum and utilizes high-grade ball bearings. With the Carter design, the blade is held on each side by a ball bearing and the thrust is taken by a third ball bearing. With the stock design, the blade is loosely held by solid blocks and the thrust is taken by the side of a ball bearing. The Carter design means that the blade is held much more precisely, which translates into cleaner cuts and less wasted wood. |

This is a device that integrates with stock blade tensioner to allow the blade tension to be released with the pull of a handle. If you are frequently changing or swapping blades, this device could save you a lot of time.
