The Blue Spruce combination square and level is a modern interpretation of a classic tool made by Disston and Morss of Philadelphia in the 19th Century. The Disston & Morss was a top-of-the-line square that was very expensive in its day, and is a rare and desirable collector's piece today. Our Blue Spruce reproduction of this square is also a top-of-the-line tool, made to the highest standards of any wooworking tools made today. It was our hope when we began this project with Dave Jeske of Blue Spruce Toolworks, that we could offer this square for quite a bit less than it is. Unfortunately, the amount of hand work and fitting required to achieve the quality that Blue Spruce Toolworks are famous has driven the cost to a much higher price than we had hoped. Alas, you get what you pay for in life, and in this case you will be getting the very best made square that can be bought today. It is an accurate level as well as square, and it incorporates its own scratch awl into the base. The original had a press fit on the scratch awl, but that was not good enough for Dave and he threaded the scratch awl into the base.
