The Blue Spruce Toolworks is a small tool manufacturer located in the Pacific Northwest manufacturing what we feel are the finest tools made in this country today. The quality of the Blue Spruce tools is simply superlative. While the Blue Spruce Toolworks product line is still small, it is growing, and everything that the Blue Spruce Toolworks makes is without peer.
It is our estimation that all of the mass-produced chisel available today are too thick to do the best quality dovetails equal to what the great British cabinetmakers once did. The Blue Spruce Toolworks chisels are not mass-produced. They are lovingly made, one at a time, by craftspeople, for craftspeople. The Blue Spruce Toolworks dovetail and paring chisels are made to be as thin as possible, with bevels that go right to the edge, for the finest work. With blades made from A-2 steel, and hardened to Rockwell 60, the Blue Spruce Toolworks chisels will hold a razor sharp edge. The Blue Spruce Toolworks chisels are not designed to be struck hard with a mallet. They do not have a bolster and are designed only to be struck lightly for dovetailing or other fine detail work. These are chisels for the master craftsperson, not the botcher.

Cocobolo handles with 4 1/4" A-2 steel blades.
Made in USA. This chisel was specifically designed to clean out the sockets of half-blind dovetails. The thin 3/8" wide blade is tapered back from the edge at an 8:1 ratio to allow side clearance and easy access into the sockets. This is an excellent ratio for dovetails in most woods, but especially hardwoods.

Blue Spruce Toolworks Bench Chisels are some of the finest quality chisels available today. They are specifically designed for heavy duty use and should be your first set of chisels. Made with both a strong socket and a deep tang construction, they are stronger than most traditional bench chisels and are superbly balanced. The handles are designed to provide a comfortable, secure grip for precision, fatigue-free work. The handles are hard, figured maple that has been infused with acrylic to fill every cell. This makes an extremely dense and tough handle. The finely machined blades are 5 inches long and 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) thick at the bolster and taper down to the bevel. The side bevels terminate with a very small side edge land which allows use right into the sharpest dovetail corners. The blades are made from A2 tool steel which is some of the finest steel available for edge tools today. It is hardened and tempered in a computer controlled vacuum furnace to a hardness of Rc60. The cutting edge is ground and honed at a 30 degree angle. They are sharp and ready to use, however, you may want to perform additional, final honing for the ultimate edge. Made in USA.
