R. Murphy Knives
Offered in Both Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel

R. Murphy and Co. has been manufacturing knives in Massachussettes since 1850. Because R. Murphy has focused on the commercial market, their knives are not well known in the consumer sector. The knives are 100% made in the USA, in a factory in Ayer, Massachussettes. We have toured the factory and were were very impressed with the combination of old school craftsmanship and 21th Century technology that goes into the manufacture of all R. Murphy knives. For example, all of the knives are cryogenically hardened, a sophisticated process which gives improved edge retention. All of the wooden handles are acrylic infused, so that they are much more durable and water resistant than conventional wood handles. This process is not a finish, becaues it is not a surface treatment. The process uses a vacuum to pull the acrylic all the way through the wood, thus giving it much greater durability than by any other practical means. The knives are all hand finished and polished in the same way that they were in the 19th Century, but from state-of-the-art American made steels. If you are looking for no nonsense knives that are made to last a lifetime, then look no further. R. Murphy knives are not glamorous designer knives, but they will perform as well as any and better than most, while lasting for generations.
