The Furniture of Charleston 1680-1820 by Rauschenberg/Bivins

The Furniture of Charleston 1680-1820
Rauschenberg/Bivins

When John Bivins died last year it was a devastating loss not only to his friends and family, but to all of us who are interested in American furniture of the South. John was a rare furniture scholar who was both a craftsman and an academic. Thus his books have more insights into construction that other books of this type. John's now out of print book on the Furniture of Coastal North Carolina is a classic that is worth more today than it was sold for new. This set of 3 books has far more color photos than the older book, thanks to improvements in printing technology, and is far more ambitious in size and scope. This book also adds some information that came out later pertaining to craftsmen covered in the previous book. This is a must own set for the serious furniture library. Volume 1: Colonial Furniture, Volume II: Neoclassical Furniture, Volume III: The Cabinetmakers.
