Swedish Modern Glass
Sweden has been known for its fine glass objects since the 18th Century when the great Swedish glass factories like Orrefors and Kosta Boda were founded. In the 20th Century, glass was second only to ceramics as a medium of expression for the great Swedish designers that pioneered the Swedish modern design movement.
Here you will see offered glass objects from Sweden's great glass factories, with a particular emphasis on the classic designs of the 1950s. Our Scandinavian design expert, Jenny Richmond, carefully selects each piece that we offer to make sure that is a good example of its type.

This is a great painted glass bowl by the Johansfors glass works in Sweden. A rare and unusual piece. It is not signed so I don't know who designed it, but it does have the Johansfors label. Probably from the 1950's or 60's judging by the label, yet so modern looking! 7 1/4" in diameter and 3 1/2" high. A couple of small scratches on the outside, otherwise very good condition. Item # AN208011601

This is a great shape from Elme and a gorgeous red color. It is a darker red with less yellow undertones in real life, my camera just wasn't able to picture the color very well. The vase measures 10 7/8" high and 2 1/8" in diameter at the top. It has 2 great labels that tell us it is made by Elme, otherwise it is unmarked. It's so great to have the labels, otherwise it would be impossible to tell which glass company made it and it would be just another anonymous piece. Excellent condition. Item # AN207072304

Skruf is one of the lesser known Swedish glass companies but they made some beautiful glass and Edenfalk is the most famous designer who worked there. This is a very simple little glass, but so pretty in its simple shape and it sits beautifully in your hand. The color is a bluish-grey and it measures 2 3/4" high and 2 3/4" in diameter at the top. It has a perfect label still intact. A sweet piece. Item # SKR03117
